I LOVE LOVE LOVE after Christmas clearances!! However, if you are going to hit the stores there are a few things to keep in mind:

1. Wait for larger discounts. Don't buy anything at 50% unless you really feel like you can't live without it, because the sales will soon go to 75% off and maybe even 90%
2.Keep your eyes out for things that can be used year round. You can often find food items like coffees, hot cocoa mixes, baking mixes, etc that can be used well after clearance. Also be on the lookout for candles, paper goods, dishes, etc with minimal holiday themes.
3. Always check expiration dates on food items!
4. Try to stock up on wrapping paper, bows, tags, ribbon, etc so you won't need to pay full price for anything next year.
5. Be on the lookout for good gifts for the following year or even throughout the year for birthdays etc. Christmas decorations always make good Christmas presents (pay attention to themes that friends and family already have for holiday decorating)
6. Bring along any coupons you may find useful. Examples: candy, toys, paper goods, home fragrance etc.
7. When it comes to wrapping paper and bags look for ones that can be used for non-holiday gifts as well. There are many patterns that are not distinctively holiday.
8. Be proactive: Watch for the discounts. You will need to go early to get the best stuff because it will go fast!
9. DON'T BUY THINGS YOU WON'T USE! Even at 90% off if you won't use it you are throwing your money away.
10. Remember: Anything you buy you will need to be able to store!
